After a 4-year break, we are excited to be part of the vibrant Cowley Road Carnival in Oxford once again! 🎉
For this project, we were tasked with creating an advert for HYPE energy drinks. We really wanted to associate a feeling of proactivity and prosociality for this product. We wanted to paint an empathetic picture of our main character here. Living a monotonous lifestyle, pining for more. All of us experience this FOMO sometimes…
We see him dejected in his dimly lit room, with a droning buzz in the background as we slowly zoom. To achieve this, we utilised a complex lighting design and smoke machine in the apartment in order to replicate sunlight peeking through the curtains on a summer morning.
Upon touching the HYPE can, our character is immediately transported to a vibrant and lively scene with his friends. After reaching for the can another time, then picking it up, we see a vignette of him playing sports and hanging out with friends, embodying a whole new exhilarating lifestyle. Filming over 4 locations, we managed to capture a diverse catalougue of scenes for the advert. Ultimately, the video tells a tale of making a conscious choice to put yourself out there, make the change, and not let opportunities pass you by.
To quote the advert itself, it’s always better to ‘Leave your boredom at home’!
As a part of our work for HYPE energy drinks, we decided to hit the streets of Oxford to find out what the hardworking students at the university think of their new range of flavours. Throughout this summer afternoon, we conducted several impromptu interviews with the public to capture their organic reactions to the product.
This DPhil student had only good things to say about the Mojito flavour, albeit mistaking the Mint for Basil…
